Destination At the popular seaside resort of Redcar, where fishing cobles land on the beach to sell their daily catch, you can experience the thrilling finishes at Redcar Racecourse or pick up bargains along the pedestrianised High Street. The Spa town of Saltburn is well know for its Victorian Buildings, railway station, water powered cliff lift and impressive pier that extends 200 metres from the shoreline. The ancient market town of Guisborough holds many hidden gems to delight every visitor. The tall tower of Guisborough Priory sits admirably within the town, offering an outstanding example of gothic architecture. What's on Offer Beach & Amenities Redcar & Cleveland has one of the longest unbroken stretches of beach in the United Kingdom, running from South Gare in the north-west to Saltburn in the south-east. The character of the coastline is one of astonishing contrasts - dramatic sea cliffs, sweeping bays and long stretches of sandy beaches. Places to Visit Many maritime, heritage and children’s attractions are situated in the area, including Zetland Lifeboat Museum, South Tees Motorsports Park, Kirkleatham Museum, Kirkleatham Owl Centre, Saltburn Cliff Lift, Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, Chris Birkbeck International Rally School, Pinchinthorpe Hall Micro Brewery and Tocketts Mill. Entertainment An exciting outdoor drama season is held during the summer months. Saltburn Community Theatre regularly holds local drama, folk and music productions. The Regent Cinema in Redcar regularly shows international big name films, but previews cult films for the discerning film buff. Shopping The area offers many independent traders along with high street names. Each town boasts many traditional antique shops. Guisborough's cobbled High Street is home to a weekly market. A farmers' market is held at Pinchinthorpe Hall and in Guisborough each month. Eating Out There are many good restaurants, pubs and coffee shops throughout the three towns, serving many international dishes. Sea Both Newcastle and Hull ports are approximately 1½ hrs drive and offer services to Norway and Holland. Air Durham Tees Valley Airport is 1 hrs drive from the area. |
